As an experience junkie we always take every opportunity we can to explore new places. Recently on a trip to Croatia we stayed on the island of Brac, but soon had exhausted the island and the nearby town of Split. So we hired a car and drove to Mostar in Bosnia., it was only a couple of hours away and the drive itself was extremely pretty.
Whilst there we saw that we just a couple of hours away from the renowned city of Dubrovnik – so we took advantage and visited.
This was an extremely whistle stop of a city that immediately captured our imagination.
We concentrated our whistle stop tour in the iconic old town, fully encapsulated by the historic castle walls. It is so incredible, and so inspiring… We didn’t need to look very far to be fully engulfed in the history and flair that Dubrovnik has to offer – It was everywhere and completely intoxicating.
The sun beating down on the winding pathways, each that offered an authentic feel of the city. As we were so pushed for time we took on the walk around the city walls – which is no afternoon stroll especially in the heat of the day. The full walk would take you around the entire city, with dramatic views of the town’s roofs and spires. The most popular segment of the walls faces the Mediterranean and offer spectacular views of the glistening bay and islands. It is a photographic dream…
Some of the city still bears the scars of the recent Yugoslavian war, however the majority has now been fully restored. It’s entirely beyond comprehension that that conflict was only a mere twenty years past. Dubrovnik as with many towns and villages in Croatia stands proud as a peaceful monuments of the ongoing success of the country.
The secret is definitely out on this marvel of a city, and thousands of tourists visit it every day. We implore you to one of them! Its STUNNING! Croatia as a whole is so incredible we are itching to return and a few more days in Dubrovnik would definitely feature high on our to do list.

Spent 5 days in Dubrovnik … Absolutely loved it ! A day in Mostar, where opposing cultures exist side by side; a day in Kotor, a hidden gem; and 3 days in Hvar — gorgeous…. All far outstripped the other half of the same vacation in the Greek islands !!!

Agree it is stunning and way more inspiring than the Greek islands. We didn’t do hvar but brac instead please check it out… where was kotor?
